Induction Day 1-10.11.2025

My First Day as a Teacher Trainee at Palayamkunnu HSS

Stepping into Palayamkunnu Higher Secondary School today marked the beginning of an entirely new chapter in my life — my journey as a teacher trainee. Though I’ve spent years inside classrooms as a student, this time it felt completely different. The moment I walked through the gates of this government school, a mix of excitement and nervousness took over. Everything here felt simple, grounded, and raw  a striking contrast to the structured and polished environment of my CBSE background.

At first, I couldn’t help but notice how my short hair and fresh look made me blend in with the students. A few even mistook me for one of them, which made me laugh and eased some of my nervousness. But soon enough, the sense of responsibility took over when I was assigned my first duties  invigilation for the 9th standard and handling their Physical Education period.

Walking into the 9th standard classroom for the first time was both heartwarming and eye-opening. The students were curious, shy, and a little restless much like I expected. What surprised me, though, was realizing that many of them struggled to write properly in Malayalam. It was a reminder of how different educational backgrounds shape students, and how crucial a teacher’s role becomes in bridging those gaps.

Throughout the day, I tried to observe everything  how teachers managed their classes, how students interacted, and how the school functioned as a community. I also collected details about the school’s routines, staff, and general environment. Every corner of Palayamkunnu HSS had something to teach me  from the warmth of the morning assembly to the sound of the bell echoing through the corridors.

By the end of the day, my fear had slowly turned into determination. I realized that teaching is not just about lessons and textbooks; it’s about understanding lives, nurturing potential, and learning alongside your students.

My first day at Palayamkunnu HSS reminded me that education is most beautiful when it is real when it reflects life in its rawest form. This experience might have been just the beginning, but it already taught me more than any classroom theory ever could.
