A Celebration of Tradition, Togetherness, and Joy When the monsoon clouds slowly retreat and the golden hues of the harvest season begin to spread across the land, Kerala awakens to the timeless melody of Onam. It is not just a festival; it is an emotion that weaves together memories of the past, the warmth of togetherness, and the beauty of tradition. This year, METCA Institute of Teacher Education welcomed the festival of abundance with the grand celebration of Thimirponam 2K25, an event that became the very reflection of Kerala’s cultural heartbeat. From the very first notes of joy to the last echoes of laughter, the campus came alive with colors, music, and unity. A Glimpse Into the Festivities The day began with a heartfelt welcome address by our Principal, whose words carried blessings and encouragement, setting the tone for the celebrations ahead. The stage then bloomed with the graceful Mega Thiruvathira, where rhythmic steps and elegant movements mirrored the charm of Kerala’s timeless traditions. Following this, the much-awaited Malayali Manka Competition, conducted by our teachers, showcased the poise, grace, and cultural pride of the participants — a true ode to Kerala womanhood. The atmosphere resonated with soulful Onappattu, as teams like Monolova, Wakhari and Kilimanjaro filled the air with songs of nostalgia and festivity. Dance, too, claimed its place in the spotlight, with mesmerizing performances by Wakahari and Monolova, blending classical beauty with fusion vibrancy. The spirit of the river came alive in the powerful Vanchipattu, while the English special performance added a global touch, reminding us that the essence of Onam transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries. No Onam is complete without laughter and games. Ona Kalikal brought back the childlike joy of play, and the final tug-of-war, Vadam Vali, stood as a symbol of strength, unity, and unbreakable bonds. More Than a Festival Thimirponam 2K25 was more than just a cultural event. It was a reminder of how tradition and modernity can walk hand in hand. It was a celebration of not only Kerala’s vibrant heritage but also of the spirit of friendship and togetherness that binds us as one family. As the echoes of music fade and the footprints of dance settle, what remains in our hearts is a memory — a golden thread woven into the tapestry of our campus life.
